A love of reading is at the heart of our curriculum, with interdisciplinary literacy a key driver of curriculum development. Oracy is also an integral part of literacy; empowering pupils to articulate their knowledge, understanding and thinking. Knowledge acquisition is central to our vision, and we provide rich and varied contexts and opportunities for pupils to acquire disciplinary knowledge and then develop and apply this broad knowledge. English

Our ambitious English curriculum encourages pupils to develop a sense of curiosity to explore and understand the world around them through the written word. Pupils will read and analyse engaging texts, not only to develop their written skills, but also to embed a love of reading. Pupils are given the tools to effectively express themselves in both written and spoken forms for a variety of audiences and different purposes. Throughout our knowledge-rich curriculum, a sense of wider community is developed by exploring texts and language from across the world; pupils are encouraged to consider a variety of perspectives, before being courageous in forming and respectfully articulating their own opinions. Pupils will be kind to themselves and others by being tolerant of people’s ideas, as well as have the courage to express themselves, engage in debate and evaluate their own and their peers’ work.

Maths

At Ipsley C of E Middle School, we have an ambitious, spiralling curriculum that aims to equip pupils with a conceptual knowledge and understanding of key mathematical concepts. This will enable our pupils to develop into confident, courageous and resilient mathematicians with a strong sense of numbers. Pupils will become collaborative learners by being kind to themselves and others throughout the learning cycle.  Mathematics is a fundamental life-long skill and through a carefully planned, progressive, and knowledge-rich curriculum, with endless opportunities for reasoning and application, we can support our children to succeed in the community and in the world beyond school.

Science

Our ambitious Science curriculum leads our young scientists through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The knowledge-rich Science curriculum aims to engage enquiring minds and to ignite natural curiosity about the ecosphere: local, national and global. Practical experiments will see enthused and courageous pupils working scientifically and sensitively to deepen their understanding of the physical and natural world around them. Ipsley C of E Middle School’s Science team will engage pupils with a sense of ‘awe and wonder’, both in lessons and through a variety of enrichment experiences. Computing

Our ambitious and knowledge-rich Computing curriculum encourages pupils to explore and develop their understanding of the fast-moving world of Computer Sciences. Pupils learn to develop their coding skills, beginning with more basic programming in Scratch before moving onto Python – a language used across many modern jobs. Pupils will be courageous as they take on the challenges of these new skills, debugging and improving their work. Pupils will also learn to be kind in the online community as they explore the necessity to be safe online. Pupils learn skills, such as web and app design, use of media and communication and data tools that will set them up for life after school.

Creative Arts

Our ambitious Creative Arts curriculum encourages young people to develop their understanding of the world around them by considering how a wide variety of media is applied and exploring how other cultures and artists develop their styles. Through the three disciplines of Art, Food and Technology, pupils will develop an understanding of the community by exploring the multicultural world they live in. Pupils will be courageous and kind as they learn to critique each other’s work, through peer assessment and the skills they have developed when learning the different design processes. Within our challenging knowledge-rich curriculum, pupils will gain wisdom by expressing themselves creatively and logically as they learn to identify, apply and adapt to patterns in artistic techniques.

Geography

Our ambitious Geography curriculum encourages pupils to explore places and people from diverse cultures to further their understanding of the world we live in. Through the knowledge-rich Geography curriculum, pupils will learn to respect the world around them and gain a sense of their place within it. While studying Geography, pupils will be encouraged to be courageous while challenging their preconceptions of places and people around the world and resilient when looking to solve some of the issues that will impact their lives. Music

The knowledge-rich Music curriculum at Ipsley C of E Middle School aims to enrich pupil’s lives significantly, allowing them to study a broad range of genres and traditions. As an ambitious and practical subject, Music allows them to develop language, reasoning, and memory skills. Pupils connect with others by creating a sense of community as they compose, listen and perform as a class. Performance skills create musicians who are resilient and know that it is courageous to try something new and not give up at the first hurdle. Pupils will learn kindness through listening and evaluating varied musical examples from all over the world, as well as understanding the context behind the music studied.

Physical Education

Our ambitious Physical Education curriculum encourages pupils to explore a wide range of sports and physical activities. Our pupils will develop their resilience by fostering a love of sports or activities that they can continue into later life. Pupils gain wisdom through a broad and balanced curriculum, offering the knowledge and experience of the latest sports. As they embrace exciting, new experiences, they will be courageous in experiencing activities that may push them beyond their comfort zone. Through team games and individual sports, they will develop a sense of community by showing respect for themselves and others. PSHE

Our knowledge-rich PSHE curriculum aims to support pupils to make the right choices in every aspect of their lives. We aim to help them be happy, healthy and courageous pupils who are able to stay safe in a rapidly changing society and their own community. Pupils will be encouraged to be kind to themselves and to others and be tolerant of people’s differences. This will allow all pupils to be ambitious and reach their true potential. Through specially designed programmes of study, our pupils will be prepared for and ready to transition to the next stages of their education. They will be given vital opportunities to think about their futures and the world of work. Pupils will be prepared to self-manage their lives and stay safe in both their immediate and distant futures and be kind, law-abiding citizens.

Your PSHE lessons are planned to support you to be happy, healthy and courageous pupils who are able to stay safe and make good choices. As your PSHE teachers, we would love to know what we could do to make your PSHE lessons as relevant as we can to you as young people in our community and answer any questions you may have.

Religious Education

As a positive and caring learning community, our pupils are ambitious to discover and know more about the diverse world around them. We embrace our Christian values and ensure all pupils demonstrate tolerance and respect of different faiths as they study our multicultural local, national and global community. Religious Education at Ipsley C of E Middle School is inclusive of all faiths and none. Pupils are courageous as they explore their own faith and values, developing the knowledge and skills needed to answer questions raised by religion and belief and thus reflect on their own world view. Through a thought-provoking, ambitious and knowledge-rich curriculum, pupils discover the joys, spiritual development and challenges faced by followers of different beliefs, enabling them to demonstrate kindness as they flourish in their empathy.
